After arriving from Washington D.C. we had one full day to spend in Pittsburgh. We had beautiful views of the city including the Cathedral of Learning.

First stop for breakfast was the highly regarded Pamela’s Diner on Forbes street. The crepes were very tasty and we received very friendly service. It is important to note that the diner is cash only.

After breakfast we visited the Phipps Conservatory, which I spoke about last week. We then headed to Point State Park in Downtown Pittsburgh, and visited the Fort Pitt Museum. I must admit it was a little underwhelming having come from the Gettysburg museum the day before, but it was still very informative.

Nearby is the Fort Pitt blockhouse which was constructed in 1764 as part of the defence buildings of the Fort Pitt. It is the only part of the building still standing today, and is the oldest structure in Western Pennsylvania. It is managed by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

We then walked down to the Point State Park Fountain, which is quite magestic overseeing the point where the three rivers meet. Next to it is the Fort Duquesne, which are bricks mapping the outline of a historic french fort.

For lunch we stopped at the Fifth Avenue Arcade Shops for a sandwich from the food court.

After lunch we had allocated time to walk around downtown, however we couldn’t really find anything to do. We went over to Market Square and then up to the David L. Lawrence Convention Centre. I was trying to use my phone to google some places to visit but I couldn’t get any reception. We walked along the river and then it started to rain. We decided that since we were close to PNC park we would just cross the Robert Clemente Bridge and wait for the ballgame to start.

We got absolutely soaked walking across the bridge! We stopped for a drink at The Beer Market where I tried an awesome banana bread beer. We then walked down to the Pittsburgh Fan and I brought a Pirates jumper to keep me warm. Dinner was tacos from the Steel Cactus across the road and then it was time for the game.

We watched the Pirates vs the Cubs and it was a great game. Part way through there were military helicopters performing a training exercise and they flew very low over the park. It was like something out of a movie!
